6 Reasons Why You Should Book a Bridal Trial

You are probably reading this post because you want to get an idea of why the heck you need a bridal trial. Well, we are here to tell you why most of the makeup artists (and even hairstylists) are always recommending it...including us! Brides will sometimes feel more comfortable scheduling their makeup trial before investing in booking for their wedding day. This is not uncommon! We always recommend that you do whatever you are comfortable with and to keep communication open and honest with your makeup artist.

First of all, what is a bridal trial?

A bridal trial is a one-on-one makeup appointment with your lead makeup artist for the sole purpose of perfecting your bridal makeup look. A lot goes into this trial, from picking out recommended skincare for your specific needs, to perfecting the color story for your bridal look. It doesn't stop there! Let's get into the top 6 reasons why you need a bridal trial!

1. To meet your makeup artist! 💄

One of the most important things in your getting ready process is ensuring that you have a great "vibe" with your makeup artist. You want to make sure that you feel comfortable communicating with him/her and most importantly, that you like the look they created specifically for you! This is a chance to get to know each other and talk about all things makeup.

2. Figuring out what you like/don't like from the trial 👍

Sometimes, the look that you had in mind isn't exactly what you envisioned; you realize that you like some aspects of the look and not others. This is TOTALLY normal!

Our recommendation: Schedule a trial so that you get an idea of the direction you want to go in with your look and to make sure you are 110% satisfied with the makeup look on the day of the wedding. We always want our clients to look and feel their absolute best on their special day.

3. Seeing how long the makeup lasts on your skin ⏳

This is especially important if your wedding date has been set during peak wedding season months (May-September) because it is usually HOT here in the DMV area. If you plan on taking photos with your photographer outdoors or crying at the alter, we HAVE to make sure that your makeup lasts!

Our recommendation: Have your trial done fairly early in the day and that you keep it on for as long as possible. We guarantee that our makeup applications will last at least 10 hours. If you have any issues with the lasting power of the makeup, contact your makeup artist with your feedback.

4. Making sure your skin doesn't react to any products 🚫

We usually don't have a problem with this because during your consultation, we go over details like skin sensitivities and concerns. BUT, it is incredibly important to try out the products that the makeup artist chose for you to ensure that you don't see any issues with the way your skin reacts.

Our recommendation: Keep your makeup artist in the loop with how the makeup sits on your skin throughout the day. You should always expect a normal amount of wear (lipstick fading, certain areas getting a little oily, etc.) and recommend that the bride has a touch up kit ready for their big day!

5. Seeing how the makeup photographs 📸

It's time for tons of selfies! Make sure you have plans with your fiancé after your trial, whether that means you are taking your engagement photos or just going out for a bite to eat. We highly recommend that you take photos in all sorts of places.

Our recommendation: Make sure to take flash photos on your phone if you are not going to be taking photos with a professional photographer. Keep in mind that makeup always looks different under different lighting!

6. To discuss wedding day details 💍

This part is just a crucial as the rest. Discussing wedding day details is super important so that the makeup artist has an idea of the timing they will need for the bridal party, how to create the makeup schedule, if an assistant is required, and much more!

Our recommendation: Use this time to ask questions about the getting ready process and anything related to your makeup appointment.
